In late 1973 a faculty member by the name of Glenn Swant proposed to Larry Carr-Braint that he attend Macdonald College’s annual woodsmen competition in Ste. Anne de Bellevue, Quebec.  Glenn suggested to Frank Hermer, a Dendrology and Mensuration College teacher at that time, that the College should form a woodsmen team to compete at Macdonald College’s competition the following year.  With very little experience or guidance the Fleming College Woodsmen team managed to finish respectively.  

By December 1981 it was decided that the College would host a competition and on November 20th, 1982 Fleming College hosted its first competition. From 1982 Fleming has competed at many competitions including annual competitions at the University of New Brunswick, McGill University and Nova Scotia Agricultural College, Finger Lakes Community College, Penn State and the University of Maine.

Over the years the team has undergone numerous name changes from Woodsmen to Timbersports to the present Loggersports. The Fleming Loggersports Team is housed at the Fleming Frost Campus in Lindsay, ON. This Fleming Phoenix varsity team currently competes with head coach Al Cavers.
